It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood of Pittsburgh

This city has a story-book feel to it, like you're on an episode of Mr Roger's who is from here.  When I pulled in after checking out from the last city, I couldn't believe what a quaint, beautiful city it was.  Everything's nestled in with the rivers, with all these little bridges. It's like a miniature city, which is of course what I would say coming from Chicago, but it's true.  You can just stroll around and always have perspective of where you are, since you can just look around and see the river in full view.  What a gorgeous setting to live in.  I was having dreams of an idyllic town on some hills near some water.  I thought it was California but I think it was here.

I went on the double decker bus tour and lost my hat. It was a hot windy day.  Saw Pittsburgh campus, Carnegie-Melon campus among other university campuses, so many great civic buildings, mostly donated by Carnegie, that philanthropic capitalist we love to hate.

The buildings downtown feel closer together than Chicago--the streets are narrower--it all makes for a minituarized version of Chicago, kind of like that model town on Mr Roger's show.

And when you pull into the city from the countryside, it's like going to Imagination Land, just like when the Mr Roger's show goes into full-on trippy-puppet mode.  All of a sudden the city comes in full view, what a sight.

So I had to stay here instead of driving to my next camping destination.  I hit up couchsurfing dot com and Mo has graciously let me stay at his apartment.  He is doing his fellowship at the hospital at University of Pittsburgh and even had a parking space for me.  We got some half price small plates at the Library right on Carson St.  The plan is to go rafting tomorrow nearby in Ohiopyle.  He had posted looking for people to go mid-week and I replied.  Nice place here---he has the air-conditioning set a little high, but I doubled up my blanket and the couch is very comfortable.

Adios, till tomorrow.  Sorry no photos, phone died
