I'm a Fun Guy, wink wink ;)

Today was hilarious. First night I decided to indulge in some alcohol with the exception of one beer last night.  The beginning of the day was not fun.  Sat at the B&B till 1 pm figuring out what to do today.  Talked to the folks at the Folk Festival who said I could not attend just Thursday, had to go on Friday for a one day pass. So I had to figure out a plan b quickly.  Scoured through Philly tourist material and decided on going to thrift stores to buy clothes for the trip.  Was going to go to the Barnes Museum which houses French Impressionist Art and an arboretum but I ran out of time since I was planning on hitting a couch surfing event at 7 pm.

I barely made it out of the house when I stumbled upon a cool little joint selling some interesting sandwiches, all with very creative ingredient combinations, Italian-based.  There was an Albanian guy who spoke Greek working the counter, had a good time chatting with him in Greek for a bit.  He gave me a free sandwich.  I ate a Diavlo, which had chicken, salami, herb cheddar spread, provolone, broccoli rabe, all heated through on a nice french bun.  I didn't get a side of anything.  He gave me another sandwich to go and said it was on the house.

Next I took the train to the thrift shop and bought a plaid button-down vintage shirt, then I bought a sports coat, also vintage.  Then I went to the AIDS thrift store and sifted through clothes there. Finally found a pair of levi's jorts and a t-shirt, changed into that and went for the hipster look.  There was a nights of philly street fest right outside the place, so I was lucky to stumble upon that.  Spent the next several hours just wandering the fest walking, bought a hat to go with my outfit.  Ate the spare sandwich, and bought a frozen orange drink.  I seemed to be drinking a lot of sugary drinks today, I also tried a bottle of birch beer from a convenience store which is a Pennsylvania Dutch drink according to package.  I watched a great folky rock band from PA that covered a Dead song off of Workingman's Dead and had a great-looking lead vocalist. They were young and full of promise and obviously dedicated to their craft.

Finally, the fest closed, and I continued my night at an Irish bar listening to a band and trying to drum up conversation with people.  Not having much success, left and looked for other places to find people to socialize with and finally ran into a place with a friendly couple who joked around with me and bought me 2 drinks. So it ended up a 4 drink night, 2 beers, Jameson on the rocks and an cider beer.

They helpfully instructed me as to when to expect the 47 bus to get me back home.  The bus promptly arrived and I made it back to Dora's safe and sound.  Lots of people-watching today.  Great city, fun times.

Tomorrow, I expect I will go to the folk fest, enjoy some music, then head to NY or possibly a city on the Jersey Shore for some summer relaxation.  Maybe do NY on Saturday.  I think at that point I might call the vacation officially over and head home.  Not much more to see or do.

I hope I can invigorate and inspire myself into having a great rest of the trip.  I was looking for some epic nights to remember, hopefully I can conjure something up and have some great memories and photos.

Will post some photos hopefully tomorrow,
